Gimpel is meaner to Mirke. Stop it, Gimpel! 4-5-1914

I wonder what women thought when they read these comic strips?

April 5, 1914: A man such as himself should certainly consider carefully who's suitable to accompany him in the street.
  1. Mirke: You give all the other girls as brides, but not your own flesh and blood.
  2. Moyshe: Thanks, Mr. Gimpel Beynish. The merchandise is not for me.
  3. Chaim: What? This is the bride you want to give me? You don't have anything better?
  4. Beril: Feh, Mr. Matchmaker. You're washed up. Keep your merchandise.
  5. GB: Come home, my problem. I'll get a bad reputation because of you.
