Mexican leader Victoriano Huerta makes an appearance. 5-5-1914
Huerta, as you can see from the photo below, did not look at all like this leprous caricature. A couple months after this strip appeared, Huerta was deposed.
Amusingly, when talking to Huerta Gimpel uses the Polish term of respect: Pani Huerta.
May 5, 1914: Somewhere, somehow, he's looking for a portion of Mexican justice.
- GB: They shoot at everything. What can you say about such robbers.
- GB: I'll show you, you demons. I'll to to Huerta myself.
- GB: Mr Huerta, I want justice. They practically shot me.
- Huerta: Hey, soldiers, come here! The man wants justice. Don't be stingy measuring it out.
- GB: Gangsters, loafers! A plague I'll give you, not brides.
