Gimpel meets up with a satisfied customer in a surprising place. 11-2-1914

In Ida Zagat's book about her husband Samuel, illustrator of Gimpel Beynish, there is a sculpture of Gimpel, and on the base it says "Gimp." I wonder if this nickname actually caught on among the readers.

November 2, 1914: Where would he be now if he weren't who he is?
  1. GB: Oy, it's a real live soldier. He's running toward me. He wants to shoot me.
  2. GB: Well, now I really should be saying my final confession. My young life is played out.
  3. Soldier: Where are you running, Mr. Gimpel Beynish?
  4. Soldier: I'm Bertshik. I've had three brides with dowries from you.
