The search for a mate for Mirke continues. 4-17-1914

I think this line of humor was running a little thin, but they kept at it. (Gimpel struck out trying to find awkward Mirke a match, so he sicced her on his competitor). I like Gimpel's envy of Moyshe Motl, who can "suck money out of a wall."

אַלבעטשע is one of Gimpel's favorite words ("albetcha") = I'll bet you...


April 17, 1914: A man like him really needs to smoke everywhere, but this doesn't always turn out auspicously.
  1. The swindler Moyshe Motl is running somewhere. I'll betcha he has a new match commissioned already.
  2. What dark luck that he got it. He can suck money out of a wall. What a devil unleashed on the world.
  3. See how he's kind of running and see his nerve. He's always turning over rocks and finding matches to make.
  4. I've got to follow him and grab the match from him. I'll demand a portion of the fee.
  5. Woe is me! Again already with Mirke! Unfortunately I ran for nothing.
4-17-1914
אַזאַ מענש װיא ער דאַרף טאַקע שמעקען איבעראַל, אָבער ניט אימער לאָזט זיך עס אױס בכי טובֿ.

דער שװינדלער משה מאָטעל לױפֿט שױן ערגעץ. אַלבעטשע, ער האָט שױן אַ נײַעם שידוך דורכצופֿיהרען.

אַ פֿינסטער מזל ער האָט עס. אפֿילו פֿון דער װאַנט צאַפּט ער געלד. אַ רשע געהט עס גוט אױף דער װעלט.

זעה נאָר אַ מין לױפֿען און אַ מין חוצפּה. פֿון אונטער דער ערד געפֿינט ער אַלע מאָל אױס נײַע שידוכים.

איך מוז איהם נאָכגעהן און אױסכאַפּען בײַ איהם דעם שידוך. איך׳ל מאָהנען אַ חלק פֿון דיא שדכנות.

אַ בראָך איז צו מיר… שױן װידער מיט מירקע׳ן. מ׳שטײנס געזאָגט, אַז איך לױף, דאַרף זיך אױסלאָזען גאָר נישט.
