Modern love affairs are going to put the matchmaker out of business. Feh! 7-7-1914, 7-8-1914, 7-9-1914

In the first strip, see an Old World matchmaker reacting to the modern self-directed spooning. No wonder he hated it. First, Public Display of Affection, and second, No Fee.

In the second strip we have politically incorrect slapstick. From time to time I feel an urge to skip over strips like this - but if I started that, where would it end?

I liked the Yinglish word "pahleh" (parlor).

July 7, 1914: He doesn't hold with romantic matches at all.
  1. I should help out those young people coming for a match. Never mind, they'll pay me.
  2. Just listen to them! Either he's out of his senses, or he's making a fool of himself. And just look at her!
  3. Feh! You get sick to your stomach listening to such compliments. People these days aren't respectable.
  4. I just can't listen to this swinish drivel. It's not fit for humans.
  5. This is not a matter for me. You can't do business with such people.

July 8, 1914: What more will his boys think up to ruin the matches he makes?
  1. GB: Thank you, kids, for the shine. You'll get candy if I do business today.
  2. GB: I'll go bring the bride. The bridegroom is waiting already in the [?]. It will be all right.
  3. Motke: look, he's asleep! Maybe we should give him a shine too, like we gave dad?
  4. Notke: The shine will look better on his face than on his shoes. Come on, before he comes back.
  5. The Bride: Mister Matchmaker, you're a swindler. You want to give me a negro for a bridegroom?

July 9, 1914: His celebration was ruined, but somebody will get something from it.
  1. They paid me in full. Now things will be good as...
  2. Sh'ma Yisrael! The world is turning over! Gevald, save a Jew from...
  3. Oy!!...
  4. - - - -
  5. So it's marbles! I know where the fish stinks and who I should be talking to.
