Car trouble part three: 3-18-1915

Another public service announcement for new Americans: you need a license to sell a car. Wait, what?


March 18, 1915: Getting rid of the automobile causes him grief, too.

  1. GB: Hopefully somebody will come take a look at the automobile. Nobody wants to buy it.
  2. GB: Sha, a policeman's coming, but why would a policeman need an automobile? Besides its providing him a place for a nap.
  3. Policeman: But you're certainly Gimpel Beynish and the automobile is certainly yours? Tell the truth.
  4. Policeman: If you are actually a fine person and telling the truth, I have a warrant for you.
  5. Policeman: And we'll see how many years of prison you get for selling automobiles without a license.

פּטור װערען פֿון דעם אױטאָמאָביל קומט איהם אױך אָן מיט צרות.

גימפּעל בײניש: ס׳זאָל אימיצער קומען אַ שמעק צו טהון צום אױטאָמאָביל. קײנער װיל איהם ניט קױפֿען.

גימפּעל בײניש: שאַ, אַ פּאָליסמאַן קומט אַהער, אָבער צו װאָס דאַרף אַ פּאָליסמאַן אַן אױטאָמאָביל? סײַדען אױף צו כאַפּען אַ דרעמעל.

פּאָליסמאַן: אָבער איהר זײַט געװיס גימפּעל בײניש און דער אײַטאָמאָביל איז געװיס אײַערער? זאָגט דעם אמת.

פּאָליסמאַן: אַז איהר זײַט יאָ אַזאַ פֿײַנער מענש און זאָגט דעם אמת, האָב איך פֿאַר אײַך אָט דעם װאַראַנט.

פּאָליסמאַן: און מיר װעלען זעהן װיפֿיעל יאָהר פּריזאָן עס קומט פֿאַר פֿאַרקױפֿען אױטאָמאָבילס אָהן לײַסענס.
